Dew Point Transmitters

Dew point transmitters measure dew point temperature and convert the dew point temperature into standardized electronic format that can be read by other instruments.  These instruments include indicators, data logger, recorders PLC and SCADA systems.

Knowing the dew point temperature is important in applications such as compressed air systems, drying processes, and HVAC systems.

Dew point transmitters include an integral sensor to measure the dew pint temperature.   These sensors typically use capacitance or chilled mirror technology.  Both technologies have advantages over the other.  Chilled mirrors use a first principle measurement so they are very accurate and also easy to maintain.   Capacitance sensors are normally lower cost than chilled mirrors and can be designed to operate at higher temperature and pressures than chilled mirrors.

Consider the following factors when selecting a dew point transmitter:

1.     Measurement Range: Ensure the transmitter covers the specific dew point range needed for your application. The range should accommodate the lowest and highest expected dew points to ensure accurate monitoring and control.

2.     Output Signal: Dew point transmitters typically offer outputs such as 4-20mA, 0-10V, or digital communications like RS485. Selecting the right output type is essential for compatibility with your control system and for effective data transmission.

3.     Accuracy and Response Time: High accuracy is crucial in applications where precise control of moisture is required, such as in pneumatic systems and manufacturing processes. A fast response time is also important for dynamic systems where conditions change rapidly.

4.     Environmental Suitability: Consider the environmental conditions where the transmitter will operate. Factors such as high humidity, exposure to corrosive gases, and extreme temperatures can impact the choice of transmitter materials and construction.

5.     Advanced Features: Additional features such as wireless connectivity, data logging, and alarms can significantly enhance functionality. Some transmitters also offer integrated temperature measurement, which can be a valuable feature for comprehensive environmental monitoring.

Selecting the right dew point transmitter is key to effective moisture control and can help prevent issues such as system corrosion, product spoilage, and inefficient operations. With the appropriate transmitter, you can maintain optimal conditions and improve the reliability and efficiency of your systems.
