There is not a specific cut off point for the length of thermocouple extension wire. Long wire lengths may lead to decreased measurement accuracy. A general rule of thumb is that for most modern instruments the extension wire can be up to 100 ft but the actual length depends on several factors including the input impedance of the data logger, the diameter of the thermocouple, the location in which the thermocouple is mounted and environment through which the wire is run.
