When extending a thermocouple you should use a wire made from the same alloy as the thermocouple. Wire constructed from a different material may be used but t could introduce significant measurement errors. As a general rule of thumb, thermocouples my be extended safely up to 100 ft but the distance depends on several factors including the input impedance of the measurement, the amount of RF noise in the environment and the potential for ground loops.
